Last month it seems I did so many items donating my artwork for so many people, events, charities and the like I have nothing left for me now. I mean, I'm drained of creativity and can't seem to get the brush back to the paper at all. I'm frustrated.
I wanted to help those in need by donating to the good and worthy causes and I really do feel good about doing it; the only bad thing that has come from it is the question I ask myself...
"Now where do I go from here?"
Have you ever had this happen to you? I'm really blocked and don't know what to do to get out of it. I stretched some watercolor paper last night and stood and stared at the blank sheet of paper as it lay there stapled to my gatorboard. No ideas, no impulses; nothing, and I loathe this artist's block I'm going through.
Can you offer your advice? Does anyone care to share?

Linda, from personal experience and from what i've read on other blogs, this artists' malaise hits all of us. I find I have to leave painting for at least a day [or a week] or I'll ruin it if I try to force myself to paint. I usually do a lot of sketching, or walking and taking photos.
Hi Linda, been through this recently myself. I go back to painting ACEO's those little 3.5 x 2.5 artist trading card/miniature paintings of simple but interesting things (I have some on my blog right now I am giving away) that's ironic :)
Doing this keeps me painting something at least until the inspiration for a larger painting comes back. To get inspiration for the ACEO's I look through photos or sometimes get ideas from movies. Watching favorite movies is a way to get inspired, too. Just yesterday I was watching a movie and wished I had my camera nearby so I could stop the movie and snap a shot of a window with a plant on it that would be awesome to paint. I hope this helps. Let me know.
I can tell you both "thank you" and mean that sincerely. It's a comfort to know "this too shall pass" and the inspiration will return. Until the time comes for the larger pieces, I'll do what you both have recommended. Go to other blogs and also paint those ACEO's, Thank you!
